Wellness Updates, Inspiration & Determination

We like to stay in touch with everyone we work with and we've had some great updates this week from a group we last saw a month ago.

They all committed to make some changes with their wellness and here's how some of them are getting on.  As usual it's simple changes that make the biggest difference.  Remember this when thinking about your own lifestyle changes...

'All is good here.  I have stopped picking between meals and I am exercising regularly (swimming and jogging).  I feel good and energised. I am working on achieving my target!'

'I have managed at least 1 off-road bike ride each week (1 hour) during the working day and I am definitely drinking more water.'

'I have been running, rowing and playing football on Sundays and meeting my aim of a minimum 3 activities per week. Have also been doing some things with the family – my youngest son and I went cycling together covering about 12K and he sometimes has cycled whilst I run.'

'All well.  I shifted my exercise routine to mid-afternoons which seems to work really well for me.  I’m doing some yoga/stretching early am and late pm too.'

'My posture in the office is improving. Actually I have changed my office chair in order to help to improve more.'

'I am doing ok. Almost daily exercise for 20 minutes on treadmill or equivalent.'

And we loved this update on one participant regarding their objectives:

  • Run 10 x before end March they say the first one is the hardest… but I will make it...

Inspiring Wellness Success Story 12

Simple, regular healthy lifestyle changes lead to energy, enthusiasm and results.

Next up in our series of success stories from our programmes, a fantastic example of how simple changes to regular habits can make a world of difference to how you feel every day.

Here’s the latest case study:
  • The date of the wellness programme you attended   September 2011
  • The lifestyle changes you made during programme   Began eating breakfast and taking sport in the morning and almost every day
  • The lifestyle changes you made following programme    Today I have a more diversified and complete breakfast than before the program; during the working days I get up 35 minutes earlier and do my exercise almost every morning; on the weekends I attend a Pilates class; most weekends I practice Golf as well. As a consequence of all this I go to bed approx. 1 hour earlier than before (during working days).
  • The secrets of your success with wellness       Including Pilates it in my daily routine: today I consider my morning Pilates at the same level as shaving or taking a shower, obligatory things that happen every day. Also having chosen a very professional Pilates gymnasium for the weekends offering a high level of training that gives me enthusiasm to keep on practicing during the week. Better breakfast makes me feel better during the morning, no doubts.
  • What advice that you received made the greatest impact on you?      Changes are always possible, just need to do it with common sense and go for it, adapting your sport programs to your physical capabilities.
  • The biggest benefits of making your lifestyle changes?    More energy for the day; feel better with my body (less pains here and there).
  • When wellness is working for you, what are the key elements that make the difference?      Early going to bed, a good breakfast, daily exercise, quality of the exercise (adapted to yourself and your aims).

Inspiring Wellness Success Story 9

'The stress relief / energising effect is by far the biggest draw for me.'

A great way to sum up the achievements this participant has made in making wellness part of his everyday routines for the last 3 years.  Here's how he did it.

The date of the wellness programme you attended:

Autumn 2009

The lifestyle changes you made during programme:

Really understood the benefits of exercising regularly and the associated business benefits.

The lifestyle changes you made following programme:

Continued my gym sessions and often go at lunchtime giving the afternoons a real energy boost!

The lifestyle changes that have stuck with you to the present day:
  • ·      More conscious of diet
  • ·      Supportive of business wide and team “wellbeing” focuses
  • ·      Lunchtime walks for staff, inter team football

The secrets of your success with wellbeing:
  • ·      Getting past the “pain barrier” of exercise when I first started to now looking forward to it and feeling really energised after a session
  • ·      Now if I don’t make it I physically miss it…
  • ·      Thus getting past this point in my opinion is the key…
  • ·      It is also the best stress relief

What advice that you received made the greatest impact on you?

The stress relief / energising effect is by far the biggest draw for me.

The biggest benefits of making your lifestyle changes?
  • ·      Less stress
  • ·      More energised
  • ·      Feel better
  • ·      Eat more of what I like to balance the burn off…

Anything that got in the way of success with wellbeing
  • Time pressures – really miss it when I don’t make it to the gym during the week.
  • Can often clash with working lunches hence the diary pressure which is a double hit – “brown buffet / no willpower and no gym” – nasty!

When wellbeing is working for you, what are the key elements that make the difference?
  • ·      Healthy breakfast
  • ·      Gym three times a week
  • ·      Going at lunchtime means I don’t feel this is my time – i.e. I arrive at the office and go home at roughly the same time whether I have been to the gym or not so doesn’t encroach on family time
